When I first set things up on Squarespace, I liked how clean their hamburger menu looked, so I went ahead and custom-coded my own version of it. I also threw in a glowing baby blue pulse contact button—blue is my favorite color, and I love how it actually looks and feels like a physical console button rather than just a flat, static shape.
One of my favorite additions is the automatic day and night shift. It automatically syncs with the visitor's local time device, switching over to a dark theme right around 5:00 PM and keeping it that way until 8:00 AM. To lean into that theme, I added a custom footer animation where the moon and some night clouds slowly pass by as visitors scroll down the page.
I’ve also expanded my social links to prep for a few new projects I’ve got in the pipeline, plus a pill button that dynamically updates as you scroll. To keep everything seamlessly synced, I integrated Elfsight widgets to pull in my social feeds automatically—meaning my latest posts populate right on the site without having to mess around with custom API integrations.
Overall, I'm thrilled with how it turned out. Honestly, I just wish I had skipped the rigid, boring template platforms and built it myself from scratch sooner.
